THE INCOMPLETE GIFT

I wanted to give you a fragrant flower
For each time you touched my deviant life
And each song you made my heart sing
Alas…
From all the gardens of the world
I couldn’t collect enough blossoms
To match the beauty of your being

Then I resolved to give you a brilliant smile
For each time you made me dance with joy
And every ecstasy you made me live
But I couldn't…
Because the happiness you shared was infinite,
And there aren't enough moments in my life
To form all the smiles I need to give

So I thought I'd paint a twinkling star
For each time I wanted to say to you
How much your friendship means to me
And look....
I've been at it for an eternity
I've painted trillions of beautiful galaxies
And I'm still at it,
Studding the dark blue sky of infinity
And when forever more comes and goes
I'll still be....
Because the entire unending universe of God
And all the light in it to paint the stars
And all the moments the earth will live to see
Are not going to be enough
To tell you what you mean to me....
